The current International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) regulations require vessels constructed on or after 1 July 2014, to have on-board a minimum of 2 Intrinsically Safe hand portable radios for fire-fighter´s communications. Those 2 two-way radios shall be of an explosion-proof type or intrinsically safe.
